welcome

Thanks for visiting the Harman Arts site! This site is in its very early stages, and the information available is a bit limited, but I hope that time will allow me to expand both the breadth and depth of the content here soon.

about me

An artist needs to be able to answer the questions; what type of art, why do it, and what does it mean?

I think a good piece of pottery (or any artwork for that matter) should make you want to get closer, invite you to pick it up and handle it (this can prove problematic in museums), inspect it for the delights of the sight and touch that it holds.

Ceramics Works

I strive to produce ceramic pieces that are well balanced and attractive as well as just plain useful. I invite people at shows to pick up and handle items they are attracted to as I feel that a piece that feels good as well as looks good will give more visual pleasure as well as be used more often. We both will feel satisfied with the transaction, they that the price was justified, I that the function and work was justified, also satisfying my need to create.

I want to create the mug or bowl or vase that is your favorite to use for that indescribable reason that it just feels right.

Print and Paint Works

Perhaps it is just the puritanical yankee streak in me, but I find it hard to part with art that is not replicable. I love painting, but do it primarily for my own enjoyment as parting with those works is like selling my children. A wrench, too little money for so much labor and love. Which is why I loooove printing and ceramics, so easy to make more, and equally beautiful! But the practical side reigns, and I tend toward cards rather than just framed prints (though if you want to frame them, that is fine by me) as they again, will be of more use.
